Why is it called the
Floating Dance Floor?
No Virginia, the dance floor doesn't really float...we do!!
From its humble beginning, the Worcester
Women's Dance has
been without a permanent home. The dance locations move or float, if you
will, from
one location of the city to another. During the early years the dances floated
frequently. Sometimes the location would change every few months. After 23
years of floating around to various VFW posts the dances were held once
again on Ballard Street, the place where they all began. Ballard Street has
merged into Millbury Street due to the Rt. 146 highway project.
During those years the Floating Dance Floor
was under
the tender care and watchful eye of Audrey Singer, to whom we owe a great debt
of gratitude for its inception and continued success throughout the years. Recently, Audrey announced her retirement and has turned the
dances over to new care takers who hope you will continue to support the only
dances just for women in the Worcester area.
Haven't been out for awhile? Miss that great feeling of kicking up your heels,
laughing with your friends, meeting new women and having a good time? Then
come back and join us this summer and all year long. With your continued
support we can make ends meet and carry on this wonderful 23 year long
tradition of dancing, loving and reaching out to our special community of
spirited dancing women in and around Worcester.
It's your dance place. Help
keep it alive and growing so someday we can float it forward to the next
generation of sisters, mothers, grandmothers, daughters and aunts.
